If you like to keep it old skool like me, this picture might bring back
some old memories. Super Mario Bros 3 is still one of my favorite mario
games of all time and not becuase it's probably the easiest to beat,
although that might have something to do with it since I always choose
to play it over SMB 1 or 2 to get the feeling that I actually
accomplished something.
I'm about 18 years late on this one, but I feel like
writing a SMB 3 review since I pulled out Super Mario All-Stars for the
super nintendo and kept it old school two nights ago.
Like I said prior, Super Mario Brothers three is one
of the best of all Mario games and by far, the best Mario game to come
out the the original NES. It's not just that it displayed the best
graphics that NES had to offer, but was also the 1st game in which
Racoon Mario made it's debut in Video Games which added so much to the
game.
Racoon Mario is by far my favorite Mario suit, followed closely by frog
suit Mario and flower power mario. Nothing beats putting on Racoon ears
and a racoon tail and somehow making you able to fly when you get
enough speed. I remember running back and forth across the screen just
so you can gain enough speed that you'd be able to fly across a certain
ditch or fly over a pipe that had one of those plant monsters which always
seemed to pop out just as you were jumping over it. But not only were
you able to fly, you could also use the tail to whip people and knock
them down. I'll call it the rapid racoon spin. This was great to take
out those annoying walking turtle skeletons that would always come back
to life if you were to merely jump on them. Sure all their bones would
be crushed, but they always pulled themselves back together and sneak
up behind you if you weren't careful. One rapid racoon spin took care
of that as it would knock that pesky turtle skeleton off the screen.
But why else would I consider SMB 3 to be the best?
Well, bosses were a lot more interesting to fight. No longer were we
just supposed to run under a giant King Koopa and hit the switch that
opened the bridge which made him fall into a pit of lava, or you jump
on top of an egg that would shoot out of a dinosaurs mouth where
you would have to pick it up and throw it back. Instead you would have
a battle with the Koopa Kids where you would actually have to use some
skill timing their jumps or avioding their magic wand attack. These
boss battles were the best.
Well, I think it's about time to end this short review and offer my
final thoughts and score this awesome game. No matter how old this game
gets, it will always be one of the best Mario games of all time. I'll
give it a 9.5 out of 10 cuz it's that good. Till next time I feel like
reviewing an old skool game, this is Isa the admin. :)
